Understanding Spectral Color Discrimination
Why Test Channels Individually?
Human color perception is mediated by three classes of retinal cone photoreceptors: S-cones (Short/Blue, peak ~420nm), M-cones (Medium/Green, peak ~530nm), and L-cones (Long/Red, peak ~560nm). Standard omnibus color acuity tests randomize hues indiscriminately, masking asymmetrical sensitivities. By evaluating Red, Yellow, Blue, Orange, Purple, and Green as discrete sequential channels, Test II detects channel-specific discrimination thresholds (such as mild tritanomaly in blue/purple or deuteranomaly in green/yellow).
Interpreting the Radar Profile
The 6-axis radar graph plots your relative acuity score per color channel (normalized to a 100-point scale based on minimum delta achieved).
- Symmetric Hexagon: Balanced trichromatic acuity across all cone combinations.
- Dip in Blue/Purple Axis: May indicate blue-light filter attenuation, S-cone fatigue, or ambient glare.
- Dip in Red/Green Axis: Correlates with protan/deutan sensitivity variations common in standard screens.
